Murad Care and Keeping: Ramps, Shifts and Layering Done Right

Treat it as a ramp problem. Drop to two or three nights a week, apply the serum over a layer of Hydro-Dynamic cream if your skin is very new to retinoids, and build frequency across several weeks. Keep the glycolic serums and the AHA/BHA Cleanser out of retinol evenings while you ramp. Mild dryness that settles as frequency builds is the common pattern; persistent stinging or soreness is a stop signal, not a stage.

Audit the total glycolic load before blaming one product. This catalogue can quietly stack it: the AHA/BHA Cleanser, the Vita-C Glycolic Serum and the Rapid Dark Spot Serum all carry exfoliating acids. Run one acid bearing leave on at a time, keep the acid cleanser to its printed two or three sessions a week and never on the same evening as a strong leave on, and give skin plain weeks with only cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen when it asks for them.

Check the defence before the serum. The commonest stall is sunscreen: an under applied morning layer, or Invisiblur used in primer amounts as the day's only protection, lets daylight undo the correcting serum's work. Apply City Skin SPF 50 in a full sunscreen amount every morning, keep the correcting serum daily, and judge on monthly photographs in the same light. Spot appearance moves slowly even in a well run routine.

Let the moisturizer beneath it settle fully before the gel goes on, apply Invisiblur in a smooth, thin layer rather than rubbing it in circles, and give it a moment to set before foundation. Silicone rich gels reward patience and punish haste. If pilling persists, the usual culprit is a very rich cream underneath; the Nutrient-Charged Water Gel is the lighter Murad base for Invisiblur days.

The spheres need the pump to crush and blend them, and late in the bottle the gel to sphere ratio shifts. Keep the bottle upright, prime with a slow full press rather than several short ones, and accept that the last applications may need a fingertip blend on the back of the hand. Storing the pump capped and upright for its whole life keeps the mechanism at its most even.

Return it to its printed schedule: two to three times weekly, on damp skin, in place of the daily cleanser rather than in addition to it. This is the single most repeated misuse in owner reports for this product. Daily cleansing belongs to the Essential-C gel; the acid wash is a polish with a calendar, and skin that has been over washed usually recovers within a week or two of the corrected rhythm.
