Biossance Care and Keeping: Getting the Squalane System to Behave

Layering order, pilling fixes, cleansing oil technique, gel and cream seasonal swaps, and storage for the Biossance serums, oils and creams in this hub.

Biossance products are individually gentle and occasionally quarrelsome in combination, usually for fixable reasons: a serum layered in the wrong order, a cleansing oil started on wet skin, a gel asked to do a cream's winter job. This page collects the keeping rules for the ten products in this hub, in the order the problems tend to appear.

The Common Problems

Each with the fix that solves it most often.

01. The Copper Peptide Serum pills under later products

Order and patience fix it. The serum goes on clean skin first, as its packaging directs, and needs a full minute to settle before a second serum or a cream is layered. Pilling is almost always a rich layer massaged over a plumping film that has not set. Use less, wait longer, and press moisturizer on rather than rubbing it in circles.

02. The Cleansing Oil barely works or leaves eyes blurred

Check the two technique points: the oil must start on dry skin with dry hands, since water added too early stops it dissolving sunscreen and makeup, and it needs a real emulsification moment, wet fingertips massaged in until it turns milky, before rinsing. Keep the work gentle around lashes rather than close. On heavy makeup nights, follow with a water based cleanser, which is the pairing the system intends.

03. The Probiotic Gel feels too light in winter

That is a seasonal mismatch, not a failed product. Layer a thin coat of the Omega Repair Cream over the gel at night, or move the gel to mornings only and let the cream take the night shift until spring. Heated rooms and cold wind raise a skin's lipid needs; the gel's job description did not change, the weather did.

04. Oils feel greasy, or bottles empty too fast

Dose is the whole story with squalane. Two or three drops of the Rose Oil, or a partial pump of the 100% oil, is a face application; a full pump is a body dose. Press oil over slightly damp skin or over moisturizer to spread it thinner. Owners who measure in drops find both bottles last as long as the sizes promise.

05. The Phyto-Retinol Serum seems to do nothing, or was bought by mistake

First, read the bottle again: it contains bakuchiol, not retinol, and its pace is deliberately gentler. Judge it over a full bottle of nightly use, by how skin looks and feels in the morning, not by the flaking feedback loop retinoid users are trained to expect. If you bought it wanting actual retinol, the fix is a retinoid serum from a different shelf, not a second layer of this one.

06. Jar creams change texture or dry at the edges

Close jars promptly, take product with clean dry hands or a spatula, and store the jars out of bathroom steam and direct sun. The Omega, Probiotic and Ectoin jars all seal well when closed straight after use. A cream that has separated after heat exposure should be judged by smell and texture; when in doubt, replace the jar rather than the routine.

Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping Serum dark green dropper bottle with cream label, 1.69 oz

Best Overall

The house's headline serum: a copper peptide for the look of firmness, carried in a plumping complex of hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid and the brand's own squalane.

The serum the house is known by, and the one bottle that shows the whole design: Copper Tripeptide-1 for the look of firmness, a Rapid Plumping Complex that makes skin look full on contact, and the sugarcane squalane base underneath. At 50 ml, fragrance free and EWG Verified on its listing, it is also the easiest Biossance purchase to justify. If the brand gets one chance on your shelf, this is the bottle that should take it.

Suits

Anyone who wants one serum that visibly plumps on contact and works on the look of firmness over time, and who values the largest serum bottle in this hub.

You run a strict minimalist routine and want a peptide step with nothing around it. This formula carries a full hydrating complex and a long botanical list beside its peptides.

Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Cream green jar with rose gold lid

Best for Dry Skin

The barrier jar: whipped ceramides, plant sterols and omega lipids around sugarcane squalane, in the line's generous jumbo size.

A barrier formula built the way skin builds itself: squalane, omega fatty acids 3, 6 and 9, biomimetic ceramides and plant sterols in a whipped cream with no filler actives and no fragrance. The verified listing is the 3.38 fl oz jumbo jar, which suits the way barrier cream actually gets used: generously, twice a day, without rationing. Dry and sensitive feeling skin starts here.

Suits

Dry and sensitive feeling skin that wants a rich, fragrance free cushion morning or night, and anyone who goes through barrier cream fast enough to want the jumbo jar

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil pink tinted 30 ml dropper bottle with rose gold collar and white label

Best Glow Oil

The glow oil: an oil soluble vitamin C dissolved in the sugarcane squalane base, finished with Chios crystal oil and Damascus rose extract.

The treatment version of the house oil. An oil soluble vitamin C rides in the lightest base in skincare, with Chios crystal oil and Damascus rose extract giving it a ritual character the plain oil deliberately lacks. It seals a routine and brightens the look of skin in the same step, and its light texture makes it the face oil most likely to survive a morning routine under makeup.

Suits

Normal, dry and dull looking skin that wants its brightening step and its oil step in one bottle, and readers new to face oils who want a light first oil with an active in it.

You avoid scent character in leave on products. The Damascus rose extract gives this oil a noticeable rose scent, and the pure squalane oil below is the scent free route to the same base.

Questions, Answered

In what order does a full Biossance routine run?

Evening: Cleansing Oil on dry skin, a water based cleanser if the day was heavy, your chosen serum, the Marine Algae Eye Cream, then moisturizer, Omega Cream or Probiotic Gel by skin type, with a few drops of squalane oil pressed over the top on dry nights or the Ectoin Rescue in place of the moisturizer. Morning: rinse or a gentle cleanse, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and sun protection as a separate final step.

How should Biossance products be stored?

Cool, dry and out of direct light, caps and lids closed. The oils keep well thanks to squalane's stability, but the Rose Oil's tinted glass is not a license for a sunny shelf. Pumps and droppers are part of each formula's dosing, so decant nothing for travel; carry the bottles upright in a case instead.
