EltaMD Care and Keeping: Pumps, Foam, Tints and Other Small Betrayals

This is the known end of bottle behaviour of the airless style pumps in this line, and it usually means the bottle is nearly empty rather than broken. Store the pump upright, prime with slow full presses rather than rapid half presses, and treat persistent sputtering after a month or more of daily use as the reorder signal it is: at generous face and neck doses, 1.7 oz does not last a season.

It was rinsed too soon. The gel is self foaming on the skin: massage it over a damp face and neck and allow the printed 30 seconds for the foam to build before rinsing with lukewarm water. If it still does not foam, the brand's own direction is to rinse and repeat, which usually means the first pass was spent on heavy makeup or sunscreen and the second pass gets the foam.

That is a shade band problem, not an application problem, and more blending will not fix an undertone mismatch. Cool and very fair skin often reads the standard tint as warm; deeper skin reads it as light. Switch within the line rather than fighting it: the untinted twin of your pump carries identical printed actives, and the UV Clear Tinted listing describes deeper tinted variants worth checking before leaving the formula you otherwise like.

The fluid thinness is the formula, an ultralight lotion built to spread fast and absorb without grease. Dispense a little at a time with the tube angled down only when you are ready, keep the cap closed and the tube stored cap tight between uses, and judge it after it absorbs: owners consistently describe a sheen on application that settles to the matte finish the tube promises.

Too many layers, applied too wet. Let the moisturizer step settle before sunscreen, and the sunscreen set before base, and use less product per layer rather than more. In this line, UV Daily under foundation is the usual suspect when a separate rich cream is also layered beneath it; try the Daily alone as the combined morning step, which is what it was designed to be.
