Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil 35 ml square dropper bottle with golden oil over a magenta base and label reading 9 cold pressed superfood seed oils
No. 1

Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil

Best Rich Blend for Dry Skin

The blend maximalist: nine cold pressed superfood seed oils and nothing synthetic, in the square bottle with the magenta base.

Nine cold pressed seed oils with omegas 3, 6 and 9 is the broadest nourishment in this edit, and dry skin that feels papery by evening is its natural brief. Use it at night over moisturiser.

Suits

Dry, sensitive leaning and ingredient curious skin that wants a broad spectrum of seed oil fatty acids and antioxidants from one bottle, with no added fragrance or silicones.

Skip if

You prefer a single ingredient oil you can reason about precisely, or your skin dislikes rich seed oil blends. The Biossance pure squalane is the opposite philosophy in this same edit.

Herbivore Botanicals Phoenix Facial Oil

Best Renewal Oil for Dry, Dull Skin

The renewal blend: rosehip and sea buckthorn oils with CoQ10, in the orange oil with the diamond label.

Rosehip and sea buckthorn in a silky medium weight texture that the listing directs over moisturiser as readily as under it, which is the flexibility dry skin routines actually use.

Suits

Dry, combination and dull looking skin that wants a botanical renewal oil with rosehip and sea buckthorn at its centre, and clean beauty readers who check certification badges.

You need a fragrance free oil for reactive skin, or an orange tinted oil worries you near pale fabrics. The scent is lightly herbal, and the colour is as vivid in the bottle as it looks.

Biossance 100% Squalane Oil dark green 100 ml pump bottle with cream label reading sugarcane derived oil for body, face and hair
No. 3

Biossance 100% Squalane Oil

Best Fragrance Free Seal

The pure workhorse: one ingredient, sugarcane derived squalane, in a generous 100 ml pump for face, body and hair.

When dry skin is also reactive, the single ingredient squalane pump seals a rich cream without adding scent or a new variable. It is the layer dry skin owners reach for on their worst weeks.

Suits

Ingredient minimalists, sensitive and reactive skin, and anyone who wants one oil that seals a routine, softens body skin and smooths hair ends without scent or extras.

You want an active doing visible extra work. This is a sealing and softening oil only, and the vitamin C rose oil above it is the same brand's treatment version.

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil

Best Night Treatment for Dehydrated Dry Skin

The French pharmacy original for dehydrated skin: blue orchid and hazelnut oil in a formula Clarins has sold since the aromatherapy era began.

Hazelnut oil pressed over a damp face at night is the classic dehydrated skin ritual, and it pairs well with a cream on the driest days rather than replacing one.

Suits

Dehydrated, tight and dull looking skin, especially skin that feels dry yet still produces some oil, and readers who enjoy a classic aromatic treatment ritual at night.

Questions, Answered

Why does my skin still feel dry under a face oil?

Usually because there was little water underneath to seal. An oil over dry, unmoisturised skin mostly softens the surface. Apply your serum and moisturiser first, leave the skin slightly damp from them, then press the oil over the top. In heated winter air, a second thin oil pass on the cheeks alone is a better fix than doubling the dose everywhere.

Should dry skin use a face oil morning and night?

Night is where the seal earns its keep for most dry skin. In the morning, a light oil such as the Elemis Superfood Oil or the squalane pair works under sunscreen for many owners; rich blends are better saved for the evening, when their slower absorption is an asset rather than a problem.
