Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector white 100 ml bottle with flip cap in front of a cream texture smear, label reading The Original Hair Perfector
No. 1

Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector

Best Weekly Anchor Treatment

The original: the pre-shampoo perfector that started the bond category, built on the brand's patented Bond Building Technology as published.

No.3 sets the calendar: once weekly for most damaged hair, up to two or three times weekly for the very damaged, as the brand directs. Everything else in a bond routine is scheduled around an anchor like this one.

Suits

Damaged looking hair of any type that needs one proven weekly treatment step: bleached, coloured or heat styled hair that feels fragile and breaks easily in brushing.

Skip if

Your hair is healthy, unprocessed and only dry. No.3 is a treatment, not a conditioner or a moisture mask, and the brand says so on its own listing; dry hair without damage is better served by the No.8 mask in this edit.

Key Ingredients
Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate (the brand's Bond Building Technology, as published), panthenol, jojoba seed oil, sweet almond oil

K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask white 50 ml pump bottle beside its red and white carton reading K18PEPTIDE biotech
No. 2

K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask

Best Wash Day Alternator

The peptide exception in a bond edit: a leave in treatment the brand publishes under molecular repair naming, used instead of conditioner and never rinsed.

K18 belongs on its own wash days, replacing conditioner, not layered under or over another treatment. Alternating a No.3 day with a K18 day is the pattern owners of both products settle into.

Suits

Bleached, coloured, chemically serviced or heat styled hair that looks and feels damaged, for owners who want the treatment step finished in four minutes with no rinse and no conditioner.

Skip if

Your main complaint is dryness rather than damage, or you want a rich mask ritual. This is a light cream dosed in single pumps, and the moisture brief belongs to the No.8 or Amika entries here.

Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Treatment white 5.1 fl oz tube, label reading citric acid plus 5 percent conditioning care complex and heat protection
No. 3

Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Treatment

Best Daily Layer

The daily piece of the acid system: a leave in cream with citric acid, a 5 percent conditioning care complex and published heat protection, as printed on the tube.

A leave in is the layer that can run daily: post wash, before styling, with heat protection published. It maintains; it does not replace the weekly treatment, and the routine works when those roles stay separate.

Suits

Processed hair that is washed and heat styled often: owners who want the bond step to live in their daily styling routine instead of a weekly pre-shampoo appointment.

Skip if

You want the strongest single treatment in the Redken line. That is the Intensive Treatment bottle in this edit, at a 14 percent bonding care complex against this tube's 5 percent conditioning care complex, and the two are not substitutes.

Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask white 100 ml pump bottle in front of a cream texture smear
No. 4

Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask

Best Moisture Counterweight

The moisture half of the bond routine: the line's rinse out mask, here because damaged hair is almost always dry hair too.

Bond routines fail on dryness more than on weakness. A weekly moisture mask, No.8 inside the Olaplex system or the Amika mask in the main edit, keeps the lengths conditioned while the treatments do their work.

Suits

Hair running a bond treatment that still feels dry: this is the conditioning partner step, published for smoothness, body and shine across all hair types, in a clean dosing pump.

Skip if

You want a bond treatment itself. No.8 carries the line's technology naming inside a moisture formula, but its published job is moisturising; the treatment heavy lifting in this edit belongs to No.3, No.0 and K18.

100 ml / 3.3 fl oz

Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate (the brand's Bond Building Technology, as published)

Questions, Answered

Can bond treatments be overused?

Used far beyond their directions, the acid and protein leaning entries can leave hair feeling dry, stiff or over clarified, and even the gentle systems waste money past their published rhythm. The directed frequencies in this edit run from daily for a light leave in to once weekly for the intensive treatments and every few weeks for the protein rich salve. More than directed is not a faster route; it is a different, worse routine.

Should conditioner be used on a bond treatment day?

For the pre-shampoo treatments, yes, after them: No.3, the Redken Intensive Treatment and the Kerastase concentrate are all followed by shampoo and conditioner as directed. K18 is the exception that proves the rule, since its protocol says to skip conditioner on its own wash days. Read the direction per product rather than adopting one habit for the whole shelf.
